Müller, Carl Friedrich Moritz - called "Feuermüller"
1807 Dresden - 1865 Munich

The Fight for Freedom of a Tyrolean Family. Standing on the roof of their house, the family defends the attacking troops. Oil on canvas. 96 x 85.5cm. Signed and dated lower right: Moritz Müller 1848. Framed.

For the national identity of Tyrol in the 19th century, the revolt of the population against the Bavarian-French occupation of 1809 was of formative importance. Last but not least, it also inspired other peoples in Europe to resist Napoleon's rule and found a great echo in the paintings of the following years.
Thus, for Feuermüller, who was known in the middle of the 19th century for his nightly scenes lit by fire, two different works on this subject are recorded at Boetticher - King Ludwig I of Bavaria also acquired such a "scene from the Tyrolean War of 1809" in 1834.

Cf. Literature:
Boetticher, Friedrich von: Malerwerke des Neunzehnten Jahrhunderts, Vol II.1, p. 104. Here under no. 13 two different works with scenes during the Tyrolean national uprising of 1809 are mentioned.
