Fritzsche, Christoph: The oldest Volkstedt porcelain manufactory. Its history from its foundation until today, Stuttgart 2013, to Hugo Meisel pp. 211-213.

When Hugo Meisel returned to the Aelteste Volkstedter Porzellanfabrik in 1920 at the age of 33, he had several eventful years behind him. The Thuringian painter and sculptor, who came from a porcelain family, had already worked for the manufactory in 1912. Between 1918 and 1920 he studied at the art academies in Munich and Berlin, after losing an arm in World War I in 1917. For Meisel, however, this was no obstacle to designing spectacular large sculptures for Volkstedt, the dimensions of which had not been reached since Kaendler or Kirchner.
