A PAIR OF MOON FLASKS WITH SCHOLARS.
Origin: China.
Date: Before 1900.
Technique: Heavy porcelain painted in famille verte.
Description: The round vase body with a narrow neck, to which two bats are attached as handles, on a
high, oval high foot ring. On the vases in round cartouches on each side a different
representation, which is mirrored on the other vase. Three gentlemen are shown in a garden
landscape around a rock table beneath large pines. Around the medallions a frame with
flowers, the sides of the vase with connected swastika and red peonies.
Measurement: H. 38.5cm, w. 27cm, th. 7.5cm.
Condition B/C. One with a large crack at the opeing. Restored at the handles.
Provenance:
-Elinor Vicomtesse de Milhau, née Hölterhoff, by inheritance until today in a private collection in Cologne.
-The pieces were acquired in France before 1900.
