Based on a gallery-talk performance conducted at the phiadelphia museum of art in 1989, Museum Highlights: A Gallery Walk leads viewers on a tour of one of America´s premier art museums. In the course of the tour, Andrea Fraser develops a social history oft he art museum in the United States, focusing on the relationship between class, taste, private philanthropy and public policy in producing not only museums but the culture of urban public spheres. At the same time, Fraser enacts the effects of that history, developing an extreme identification with the museum in her attempts to become the institution´s representative and its ideal visitor.
