MAGNIFICENT, LIDDED VERMEIL TANKARD WITH FINE FLORAL ENGRAVINGS.

Technique: Gilt silver.
Description: Vaulted stand with auricular decor and the faceted sides decorated with the finest floral
motifs in dotted engravings. On the humps in the pendentives alternating fruit- and
auricular decor. The hinged lid is correspondingly designed and composed of leaf-like
volutes with a magnificent vegetal knob. Forked thumb rest and the handle with caryatid.
Weight: Ca. 620g.
Measurement: Height 20cm.
Mark: Inspection mark Nuremberg 1650/51-1657 (GMN no.19), fineness 13, maker's mark (on bottom & inside edge of the lid) Andreas Berckmann (1651/53-1688 ibid. no.56), testing mark.

The fine floral motifs on the sides of the mug are extraordinarily varied and show, in addition to tulip or rose, for example, also the more unusual Fritillaria. Besides the chased floral decors, they are one of the characteristics of Andreas Berckmann's work.
