Notation: Inscribed on the plinth: "A. Rodin".
Foundry Mark: on the plinth Foundry mark with numbering: 4/99 / RAC / 1988 / Strassacker Kunstguss Süssen.
Provenance:
Private ownership, Germany.
Recast after the bronze that was created in two different sizes in 1876 and can be found, amongst others, in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris or Berlin Alte Nationalgalerie today. The motif of the life-sized statue of a nude man, who, without any attributes, depicts the awakening of humanity, was one of the first works with which the young Rodin succeeded. In its natural and detailed implementation the bronze marks the beginning of modern statuary art today.
