The illustrated book is published on the occasion of the symposium "Der Faktor Mensch" with contributions by Sasa Hanten-Schmidt, Prof. Dr. Jens Beckert, Dr. Michael Holtz, Thorsten Klinkner, Prof. Dr. Harald Falckenberg and Prof. Dr. Angela Utermann.

The central theme of the symposium is generational transition with reference to art. It approaches the field in an interdisciplinary way in order to bring together those directly involved, such as collectors, artists or gallery owners, and the experts professionally concerned with the topics and to place biographical transitions in larger contexts of understanding. Accordingly, the panel will present the current state of research on generational succession specifically with regard to art-related protagonists. Sociological and psychological findings will be brought together with expertise on inheritance and foundation law, including questions of valuation. After all, the expertly assigned value of art is often the decisive factor in determining whether solutions envisaged are suitable in individual cases due to possible tax burdens or claims to compulsory portions. The panel is supported by the conviction that it is possible for the players to make the transfer legally correct and satisfactory for all parties involved.
