Private ownership, Germany.
The present painting is a collaborative work by painters of the Düsseldorf School of Painting: a canvas was divided into several tiles and each artist was able to fill it - presumably in the context of a social gathering - with own ideas and artworks. Many of the small-format works are signed, and on the reverse the individual fields were attributed to the respective artists. Thus we find works by well-known representatives of the Düsseldorf School of Painting: Hugo Mühlig filled his part of the canvas with a winter landscape very typical of him, Carl Irmer can be seen with two beach scenes characteristic of him. The unusual work is reminiscent of so-called "Painted Fans", in which the individual fan leaves were designed by different artists.
