Diamonds: Ca. 224 brilliant-cut diamonds in total ca. 11,1 ct., H-I/VS1-SI2, 22 diamonds in square-, baguette- and trapezoid-cut in total ca. 1,3 ct., H-I/VS1-SI2 .
Gemstones: 1 amethyst in pear-cut ca. 69,0 ct, 27 amethysts in emerald-cut, 3 oval, faceted amethysts, in total ca. 291,0 ct, ca. 292 round and oval turquoises in cabochon-cut, in total ca. 102,0 ct .
Description: A very opulent, elaborately crafted set, set with fine gemstones.
The necklace resembles the one from the iconic amethyst and turquoise set worn by Wallis Simpson, 1937 - 1986 Duchess of Windsor, to a gala in Versaille in 1953. The original was designed by Cartier for the Duchess in 1947 and was auctioned as part of her collection at Sotheby's in Geneva on 2 April 1987. Illustrated in the book "Sotheby's Great Sales 1987-88", 1st edition, p. 19, auctioned at the time for CHF 907,500, it is now part of the Cartier Collection. The set offered here proves that the Duchess's collection of outstanding pieces of jewellery continues to be a source of inspiration for modern jewellery design.
