The illustration of a drawing simply from soft vibrant, coloured lines, broadly drawn is a remarkable procedure. Kirchner leaves all guidlines and restrictions of the academic tradition behind him and captures the unsettled, irritant and sensatious of a very different sense of life. The verve of the grand gestures which Krichner uses to shape his figures started with a sheet like this one here. Here, the viewer encounters what Krichner called "Ekstase": These moments in which the artist does not reproduce what he saw, not copy, but everything in his inner to protray it with new signs, new colours, new lines on paper.
