In his sculptures Ewald Mataré especially deals with the nature of animals. Here, he does not want to portray characteristics but always the exemplifying and originating which reaches to the mythological. By concentrating on the most essencial, Mataré displays the beauty and dignity with deep empathy and reduced shapes. Though, he does not negate the reference to nature. This way he creates his own perception of "living" sculptures in the real space which he founds in the onidirectional view and abstraction as well as the closed form and the use of materials. A lovely example for this is the offered small capricorn.
