Koch describes this large canvas by Keller as one design from a series of four large formats after antique motifs for wall hangings, all made in 1893. The subject for these tapestry paintings were bacchanals; Koch lists these works under cat. rais. no. 241 and states that they were made for Keller's summer house in Niederpöcking.
