ART DECO GLASS VASE "LA CHEVELURE HAUT".
Argy-Rousseau, Gabriel.
Date: Ca. 1928.
Technique: Pâte de verre, translucid mass of glass with magenta and violet inclusions resp. applied glass layer.
Description: The vase has a slightly curved wall and a minimally protruding rim. Three stylised female
profiles with wavy, long hair all around the wall.
Measurement: Height 19cm.
Mark: On the sides inscr: "G. Argy-Rousseau", embossed.
Mark: On the bottom "France", engraved.
Literature:
Bloch-Dermant, Janine: G. Argy-Rousseau, Les pâtes de verre, Catalogue Raisonné, Paris 1990.
The vase is a beautiful example of the influence of the Art Deco design language in glass art. With its flowing lines and reduced forms, it shows an abstraction of the female profile which, despite the stylisation, expresses the softness of feminine beauty. Alongside animals and floral depictions, depictions of women were among the most popular main themes of Art Deco.
