BACKLIT WALNUT WALL SHELF FROM THE 'PARETE ORGANIZZATA' SERIES.
Ponti, Gio. Milan 1891 - 1979.
Date: Ca. 1960.
Technique: Walnut, partially white-lacquered. Electrified with double socket.
Description: Two white side panels mounted on a rectangular back panel. Between them, at a slight
distance, three narrower rectangular panels. These are mounted so that they appear to
float slightly, creating space for lighting, with two shelves with fixed sides. The
arrangement creates a multi-layered lightness of the individual parts.
Measurement: 70x110x20cm.
Certificate:
Certificate from the Gio Ponti Archive, Milan, dated 25th October 2008, copy enclosed.
Gio Ponti was one of the most important and versatile designers of the 20th century. At the end of the 1940s, he developed the concept of the so-called 'Parete Organizzata', the organised wall. This Parete was based on the idea that shelves, lighting and small objects such as bowls or similar items were mounted on a single back panel, thus forming an organised but also mobile wall.
