George Crewdson focuses on the everyday life of american middle class behind which the dream often is a nightmare. For this he uses refinely arranged, surreal settings for his large photographies. Especially interesting for his is captureing the moment between the before and after, the moment that remains unsolved and thus leaves answers unresolved. The same goes for "Untitled, Winter (Sunday roast)" which belongs to the series "Beneath the Roses" that was created from 2003 to 2007. Crewdsons interest lies in invading others in the homely idyll: the collapsing nature, the sexuality, the unconscious and last but not least the disaster. The static and soundless picture reminds of a still life. Due to mixing dreams and reality like in twilight and the ambiguity Credson created a kind of tension from which the viewer cannot get free. Because we suspect disaster whos kind and result we personally stage.
