PIGOTT, HADRIAN
1961 Aldershot/England

Title: Gender Soaps.
Subtitle: Installation.
Date: 1996.
Technique: Two light boxes with one large slide each, wired for electricity.
Measurement: Each: 150 x 150 x 13cm.

Condition:
Both light boxes are fully functional.

Provenance:
- Corporate collection Germany

The work was shown in 1996 in the exhibition "Statements 1", which took place parallel to the Venice Biennale and marked the beginning of the "Statements Series". The work consists of two monumental light boxes showing the well-known "Gendersoaps" by Hadrian Pigott. The words "BOY" and "GIRL" are imprinted in the soaps - which change their colours from one lightbox to the other. In a highly aesthetic setting, the artist thus contributes to the gender debate in a humorous and subtle way.
