PARTIALLY GILT SILVER TANKARD WITH GILT INTERIOR DEPICTING CUPIDS WITH INSTRUMENTS.

Halle an der Saale.
Date: Around 1670.
Maker/Designer: Presumably Michael Schneider.
Technique: Partially gilt silver with gilt interior.
Description: Vaulted foot with enchased and engraved flowers and leafs. On the cylindrical walls,
circumferential depiction of putti sitting on forest ground making music. Between them
flowers, birds and flying butterflies. The hinged lid decorated correspondingly to the
foot rim and with floral knob. The handle with forked thumb rest, pearl-decoration and
shield.
Weight: 554g.
Measurement: Height 20cm.
Mark: On lid and foot rim: Inspection mark Halle a.d. Saale, 17th century (Rosenberg Nr.2303), maker's mark 'MS' probably for Michael Schneider (after 1659).
Austrian import mark (Tardy p.74)..
