IMPORTANT LARGE TEABOWL (CHAWAN) WITH PEONY FLOWERS.

Origin: Japan or Korea.
Date: 17th-18th c.
Technique: Thick grey stoneware, probably formed by hand, painted with ivory colored and reddish slip, glazed transparently with crazing.
Description: High tsutsu or wari nari shape with vertical wall, a bit drawn in towards the lip. Lower
part rounded, on foot ring. Spiral inside. Painted with large peony flowers and leaves.
Old gold lacquer repairs (kin tsugi). Inside tea deposits.
Measurement: H.11,8cm, Ø 11cm.
Seal: Underneath an impressed makers mark, illegible.
Condition B/C.

Provenance:
-Collection Dr. Franz Haniel (1883-1965), since then bequest of the family estate.
-According to the enclosed letter "Yi-Namban". Acquired from Hayashi XII. [18]98, Fr. 1500.
