Description: Gübelin Gemmological Report from 02/2025 and a leaflet on untreated sapphires enclosed. The stone has probably been slightly recut. Signed "Janesich", engraved individual number. The Italian jeweller Janesich is known in Trieste and Paris for his Art Deco jewellery.
Founded in 1835 by Leopoldo Janesich, the company quickly gained wealthy customers. His son Giovanni expanded to Paris in 1896, where grandson Alberto worked with Bulgari, Boucheron and Tiffany, while Giuseppe continued the business in Trieste.
After the First World War, Janesich opened branches in Monte Carlo, Deauville and Vichy. In 1925, the company became purveyor to the court of the House of Savoy. The sapphire used here comes from Kashmir, India, where the most sought-after and valuable sapphires are mined. The intense velvety blue is known as 'cornflower blue' and has a particularly vivid and deep appearance. The tiny inclusions of rutile needles create a misty lustre, known as the "silk effect".
