Maker/Designer: Model Jean-André Reiche.
Technique: Gilt and burnished bronze.
Description: In front of a screen with elaborate cloth drapery, swan decoration and egyptianizing
pilasters, the fully sculpted figurine of the Duchess of Berry, nursing her son. Her
daughter Louise kneeling in front of her for evening prayers. Dial with Roman numerals and
Breguet hands. 14-day pendulum movement with thread suspension, half-hour strike on bell.
Measurement: 37x29,5x16cm.
Mark: On dial inscr. "AL Dre Picnot Bzier R des Fsés Motre / Viel Ainé Hger (Jean-Nicolas Picnot (1785-1821) after 1812 rue du Fosses Montmatre).

According to a legend, the pendulum clock "Night Prayer" was designed by Reiche on the occasion of the birth of the Duke of Bordeaux. His birth was given special attention due to the death of the father, who fell victim to an assassination. The story was the main political and social issue of the time. The son became "L'enfant du miracle" and his fate moved the entire nation.
