The Staatliche Museen in Kassel keep a comparable drawing with the same theme by Nahl the Younger as well as the painting "Olint und Sophornia", which is stylistically very closely related.
It can therefore be assumed that the work presented here was created during his stay in Rome from 1774 onwards.
