Hossauer, Johann George. Berlin.

Date: Around 1819.
Technique: Gilt silver.
Description: Slightly curved, round foot with baluster shaft, both decorated with dense rocaille and
scallop décor. Three-flame candelabrum with central tendril.
Measurement: Height each 35,5, width 32,5cm.
Mark: Inspection mark Berlin with indistinct letters, 2. inspection master Andreack (1819-42, ibid. no.18), maker's mark Johann George Hossauer (1819-1874, 1826 goldsmith of his majesty.

Johann George Hossauer settled in Berlin in 1819 and achieved great recognition after only
a short period time. The Prussian royal family in particular appreciated not only his
designs, but above all the high quality of his craftsmanship. In 1826 he was appointed
'Goldsmith to His Majesty the King' by Frederick William III. Among other things, he
created an extensive dinner service on the occasion of the wedding of Prince Wilhelm of
Prussia and Princess Augusta of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach on the 11th of June 1829 .
