FEMALE NUDE.

Kaiserliche Porzellanmanufaktur. St. Petersburg.
Date: 1905.
Maker/Designer: Model A. Adamson.
Technique: Bisque porcelain.
Description: Female nude emerging from a wave, her arms wrapped around a rock.
Measurement: Height 50cm.
Mark: Manufactory mark, inscribed and dated on the base in Cyrillic "A. Adamson 1905".

Amandus Adamson was one of the most famous Estonian sculptors of his time. After years of
study in St. Petersburg, he first began to work there as a freelance artist. After a
period of study in Paris and Italy from 1887 to 1891, the influences of the works of Jules
Dalou and Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux can be clearly seen in his creations. In addition to
large sculptures and monuments, he also created smaller works, such as the sculpture "The
Last Sigh of the Ship" from 1899, a design very similar to the one presented here.
Versions of various of his models in bisque porcelain can be found in the collection of
the Hermitage in St. Petersburg.
