OVAL SNUFF BOX WITH FINE WATTEAU SCENES.
Meissen.
Date: Around 1760.
Technique: Porcelain, decorated with colors and gold.
Description: Porcelain with finely painted, polychrome décor. Hinged, golden mounting. Rocaille and
floral reliefs form six curved cartouches on the sides, which are painted with fine
Watteau and shepherd scenes. Another cartouche on the lid, the inside of the lid and the
underside of the box are decorated with aditional scenes. The rocaille reliefs are
accentuated with delicate shades of pink and yellow, the floral reliefs with fine flower
paintings. The elegant, fluid combination of relief and color creates an enchanting
framework for the painted scenes, which can be viewed as if through an arcade or in garden
architectures adorned with archways.
Measurement: 5x8x6cm.
Mark: Mounting marked: French guarantee for gold from 1838 (Rosenberg no. 6595).
