OAK TABLE.
Technik: Oak tabletop with frame made of crude steel. The top of this extraordinary table, which impresses with its immense strength and size,
was cut from a French oak. Threatened by pest infestation due to drought, the approximately 450-500 year old tree was cut in 2004 in Burgundy. The number of comparable trees in France is in the single-digit range, which is why the table can be considered a true rarity. Due to its impressive size, the oak trunk, which weighed approx. 5000kg, had to be taken to the Atlantic coast, to a sawmill specializing in tropical wood cutting in Nantes. The debarked original tree edge forms the long side; the fronts show signs of the saw. The cracks in the oiled surface have deliberately not been filled in. Due to the
enormous dimensions of the tabletop, further stress cracks could occur later on. The specially made frame consists of crude steel.
For the collector, the special fascination of this extraordinary piece of furniture is defined by its history:
'This oak tree grew into present times as a sturdy veteran and formed its first leaves at the beginning of the modern age. The tree has witnessed the time of the Sun King Louis XIV, the French Revolution, accompanied the rise of France with Napoleon Bonaparte and survived both world wars unscathed'.
Measurement: Weight incl. frame ca. 750 kg. Tabletop ca. 69x600x140cm, thickness: 7.5-8.0cm.
The Table can be previewed in the Düsseldorf area.
