PIENE, OTTO
1928 Laasphe/Westphalia - 2014 Berlin
Title: Rastersonne.
Date: 2009.
Technique: Clay with gold glaze, polychromed.
Ø 46,5 x 2cmNotation: . Stamped and numbered verso: Otto Piene, 'Rastersonne', 2009, Nr. 53/99.
Number: 53/99.
Condition:
Minimal rubbing of th eedges. Two minimal scratch marks (max. ca. 1 cm) right of the centre (only visible under oblique light). Otherwise the object is in very good condition.
1999 Otto Piene resorts to one of the oldest artisanal materials for the first time - ceramics. Since 2006 he has worked together with the Cologne ceramic work shop Niels Dietrich and develops his latest group of works of the grid-, fire-, and pit ceramic which also pick up Piene's paiting gestures amongst other things. The present grid ceramic shows a strong corrolation with the grid pictures of the early 1960s. Like fire pictures, the outcome of the ceramics is also unpredictable beacause the glaze may react differently during the buring procedure. The glazes form gold or platinum make the ceramics glow. The relief captures the light, reflacts and refelcts it. The light is reflected back into the room and creates an iridescent shimmer
