Rodolphe Wytsmann depicted the motif of blossoming cherry trees several times. Here, it is an old cherry tree in autumn that the Belgian Late Impressionist 'portrays'. As one of the founding members of the artists' group "Les Vingts", Rodolphe Wytsman, together with Theo van Rysselberghe, James Ensor and Ferdinand Khnopff, belonged to the "inner circle" of the Brussels avant-garde at the end of the 19th century.
