Title: Indian Camel Rider with Slain Lion.
Date: Late 1880s.
Technique: Pencil, India ink and gouache on paper.
Measurement: 27.5 x 23cm.
Notation: Signed and inscribed lower right: "W. Friedrich".
Frame: Framed.

Labelled above the signature: "Sassuness" or "Sagguness".

Provenance:
Private ownership, Germany.

Woldemar Friedrich accompanied Duke Ernst Günther of Schleswig-Holstein on a trip to India in 1887/88. In 1890, he published the studies and sketches he made there in the book "Sechs Monate Indien. Jagd- und Reisebilder" ('Six months in India. Hunting and travel depictions'). It may be assumed that the present sketch is intended to be seen in this context.
