A HIGH AND SQUARE VASE.

Origin: Japan.
Date: 19th c.
Technique: Light-colored stoneware with thin, iron-red layer, covered with greenish, transparent, glossy ash glaze with crackle.
Description: A bit bulbous body, neck with rounded lip and the foot ring set off. Wall with vertical
grooves, the surfaces decorated with engraved parallel wavy lines. Partial areas covered
with black lacquer, possibly old repairs. At the lip old gold lacquer repairs.
Measurement: H.26cm, Ø 9,7cm.
Condition B/C. Supplement: Matching wooden box (kiribako) with inscription.


Provenance:
Collection Dr. Franz Haniel (1883-1965), since then bequest of the family estate.
