LARGE PORCELAIN FIGURINE WASSERIDYLL.
Aelteste Volkstedter Porcelain Manufactroy. Volkstedt. Rudolstadt-Volkstedt.
Date: Ca. 1920-1934.
Maker/Designer: Model Gustav Oppel.
Technique: Porcelain, without "staffage".
Description: On an oval base with sculpturally carved waves, a seahorse with a pearl-studded bridle being ridden by a small Triton, a servant of the sea deities. He holds the pearl reins in his left hand, his right hand raised and pointing to something. The triton's head is tilted to the left and his gaze follows the pointing gesture.
This figure was probably part of several elements from a centrepiece.
Measurement: 49x60x28cm.
Mark: Verso manufacture mark, painted blue under glaze.
Mark: Laterally inscr. "GUSTAV OPPEL", embossed.
