Lewin-Funcke's naturalistic depiction of a young woman in a dance-like pose evokes associations with Isadora Duncan's unique repertoire of movement. Around 1900, the icon of modern expressive dance was inspired by the aesthetics of Greek antiquity, as they also appear in this work, in which grace and youth combine to create a timeless ideal.
