Foundry Mark: on the plinth Founder stamp with numbering: 15/99 / RAC / 1988 / Strassacker Kunstguss Süssen.
Frame/Pedestal: plinth.
Re-cast after the bronze created in 1876 in two different sizes, which is now in the Musée
d'Orsay in Paris or the Old National Gallery in Berlin, among others. The motif of the
life-size figure of a naked man, without any attributes, representing the awakening of
humanity, was one of the first works with which the still young Rodin experienced his
breakthrough. In its lifelike and detailed realization, the bronze today marks the
beginning of modern sculpture.
