RARE WALNUT FURNITURE ON STANDS WITH RICH INLAYS.
Baden.
Date: Ca. 1740.
Technique: Walnut, various fruitwoods veneered and inlaid.
Description: Three-part body with three-drawer, moulded chest bottom. This is topped with a false
drawer and hinged panel. The tabernacle top section rests on a flat intermediate section
with three drawers. The centre section has two drawers and a central door, with five
smaller drawers on each side. The fronts of the tabernacle top section feature inlaid
scenes from the Passion of Christ.
Measurement: 185x110x70cm.
Provenance:
German private collection, acquired at Sotheby's Zürich, auction 29th November 1989, lot 278. Provenance stated as 'Hessian private collection'.
