MAGNIFICENT AND EXCEPTIONALLY LARGE SILVER COIN CUP.

Date: Dated 1686.
Technique: Silver with partial gilding and inner-gilding.
Description: Slightly conical wall with a stepped, smooth lip. Eight 3-groschen coins from Albert of
Brandenburg, 1545, are embedded in the base, with a large Guldiner silver thaler (?) from
Archduke Sigismund of Tyrol, 1486, in the centre. On the wall, there are seven narrow
registers, each with 14 coins, making a total of 98 3-groschen coins. The clamshell lid
also has a domed shoulder and a ball knob with corresponding coins set into it. In
between, both on the wall and on the lid, there is a leaf ornament which forms mascarons
in a mannerist style.
Weight: Ca. 1140g.
Measurement: Height 25cm.
Mark: Marked on edges of lips and lid: inspection mark Berlin (Scheffler Berlin Nr.4b), maker's mark Heinrich von der Heyde (from ca. 1673, ibid. Nr.169) , assayer's mark.
