SCHULTZE, BERNARD
1915 Schneidemühl - 2005 Cologne
Title: "ein Veitstanz im Frühling".
Date: 2001.
Technique: Oil on canvas.
Measurement: 150 x 120cm.
Notation: Dated and signed on the bottom right: 2001 Bernard Schultze. Signed, dated and titled verso: Bernard Schultze 2001 "ein Veitstanz im Frühling".
Condition: For a condition report, please contact Ms. Janine Breidenbend at j.breidenbend@van-ham.com.
Bernard Schultze paints from an arbitrarily determined beginning, following color and brush. His paintings are associative and often convey a narrative through their titles. "ein Veitstanz im Frühling" ("A St. Vitus Dance in Spring") is a cheerful, light-filled work with spring-like colors and shapes. At the same time, however, the title hints at what the style shows: a will-less dancing frenzy.
Label verso:
- Galerie Zellermayer (?), various work details
Provenance:
- Estate of the artist
- Folkwang-Museumsverein e.V., Essen
Literature:
- Diederich, Stephan/Herrmann, Barbara (ed.): Bernard Schultze, Verzeichnis der Werke, vol. III, 1990 to 2005, Cologne 2015, p. 938, illus. p. 939, WVZ no. 01/47.
VAN HAM Art Estate represents the artistic estate of part of the artistic estate of Bernard Schultze in cooperation with the Folkwang-Museumsverein in Essen since 2018.
