IMPORTANT ROCOCO CABINET MADE OF NUTWOOD, ROOTWOOD A.O. AND ENGRAVED IVORY INLAYS.

Braunschweig.
Date: Around 1740.
Technique: Nutwood, rootwood, elmwood and others polished and laid-in. Engraved ivory inlays. Gilt brass fittings. Brass and iron locks.
Description: Expansive, three-drawer chest on elaborately carved volute feet and with curved front.
Correspondingly shaped, two-door top with pilasters and curved cornice. Six drawers
inside. Inlays in framed sections show ribbons, acanthus decor and vases with flowers. On
cleats additional inlays depicting the female allegories of faith, love and hope.
Measurement: 226x140x59cm.


Provenance:
Collection Prof. Thomas Olbricht, purchased at Kunsthandel Dr. Schmitz-Avila, Bad Breisig.

Literature:
Heinrich Kreisel: Die Kunst des Deutschen Möbels, vol. 2, Munich 1970. Regarding this type compare fig. 875, an almost identical piece of furniture at the Reißmuseum Mannheim.
