With great skill and sensitivity the painter, who may have come from the circle of Jan van Scorel (Schoorl 1495 - Utrecht 1562), portrays the face of his client, a woman of about 40-50 years of age. The woman, dressed in white and brown, stands out against the bright green background and reveals her concrete, human presence. The painter carefully studied every detail of the face of his sitter, which is confirmed by the infrared reflectography that was able to reveal the presence of a drawing under the painting.
