ISABEY, EUGÈNE
1803 Paris - 1886 Lagney

Title: French Fishing Village.
Technique: Oil on canvas.
Mounting: Relined.
Measurement: 56 x 77cm.
Notation: Signed in the middle of the dinghy: E. Isabey.
Frame/Pedestal: Framed.
Verso:
On the stretcher frame adhesive label Kabatznick's Art Shop, Boston MA.

Cf. literature:
P. Miquel: Eugène Isabey (1803-1886). La Marine su XIXe siècle, Maurs-la- Jolie 1980, here cat. rais. no. 906, 1051 and 1154.

Provenance:
Private ownership, Germany.

Isabey travelled to Normandy in 1828; subsequently he produced several very comparable depictions of French fishing villages with the striking architecture in the background, which are very reminiscent of Mont Saint Michel. Accordingly, there is also an old adhesive label on the reverse of the present work, presumably attributable to the Boston art dealer Kabatznik, describing the painting with Mont St. Michel.
