RICHTER, GERHARD
1932 Dresden
Title: Schwarz, Rot, Gold I.
Date: 1998.
Technique: Three squares of white half card worked over with oil paint, collaged on white card.
Measurement: 42 x 29,5cm.
Notation: Signed and dated lower centre: Richter '98. As well as inscribed upper centre: 1 2 1.
Frame/Pedestal: Framed (42,5 x 30,5cm).
Condition:
The artwork is in very good condition. Not examined out of the frame.
The edition was published by Texte zur Kunst, Cologne (issue no. 32). It was created in connection with the commissioned work "Schwarz, Rot, Gold", which the artist produced in 1999 for the German Bundestag in the Reichstag building in Berlin (cf. cat. rais. no. 856).
From a selection of four shades of black, four shades of red and four shades of gold previously determined by Gerhard Richter, 64 different colour combinations were created twice. Which of the four colour tones are contained in each collage is indicated by the three-digit number on the sheet. Each copy of the (2 x) 64 collages therefore has an individual colour scheme.
Provenance:
- Private collection, North Germany
Literature:
- Butin, Hubertus/Gronert, Stefan/Olbricht, Thomas (eds.): Gerhard Richter - Editions 1965-2013, Ostfildern 2014, cat. rais. no. 107.
