Born in Estonia and educated in Düsseldorf, the painter Gregor von Bochmann is known to us today primarily for his moving village scenes from the Netherlands or his Baltic homeland. In a naturalistic style, he depicts everyday occurrences without striking elements, suggesting a spontaneity and immediacy. The collection of sketches and watercolours presented here - as well as silhouettes, a very special graphic technique that documents all the more Bochmann's technical finesse and precise powers of observation - shows that these watercolours and paintings are based on a close study of nature.
