The artist was inspired for this work by the ballet "Le sacre du printemps" by the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky, written around 1913. Hann Trier thus created a visual concerto in four parts. This ballet also served him as a model for a second sequence of pictures (cf. WVZ.-Nr. 707).
