Hans Dahl belonged to the group of Norwegian artists who trained at the Düsseldorf Academy. Motifs from his homeland, depicting idyllic rural life, were very popular with German collectors and in the USA. Dahl was a personal friend of Kaiser Wilhelm II, who also bought many of his paintings.
