A copy of a photo certificate from Julia Pechstein, dated 31 August 2022, is available for the work. It is listed under the archive number 2022 08 31 02.

In the summer of 1931, Pechstein undertook a longer journey through the south of France, during which he stopped in the small coastal town of Hendaye at the beginning of June. In a letter to his friend Walter Minnich dated 06.06.1931, the artist describes the creation of the work: "I painted this motif in watercolor this morning. Unfortunately, I am standing so close to the slope and in the streetcar tracks that I cannot dare to paint it large.".
