LARGE PORCELAIN PLATE FROM THE SERVICE OF GRAND DUKE KONSTANTIN NIKOLAYEVICH.
Imperial Porcelain Manufacture. St. Petersburg.
Date: Period Nicholas I (1848-1855).
Maker/Designer: Model F. G. Solnzew, 1848.
Technique: Porcelain, painted in colours and golden.
Description: Large plate with a slightly fluted centre and wide rim. Opposite each other is a cartouche
with the imperial double-headed eagle and a cartouche with the monogram of the Grand Duke
'BKKH'. In the transition to the mirror a continuous wide gold ring. Below it an
ornamental band in the style of old Russian enamel work.
Measurement: ø 32,5cm.
Mark: Manufacture mark from ligated monogram: N I (Cyrillic) under crown, painted blue under the glaze. Painter's number 12, indistinct cameo mark.

The pieces presented here are part of the large banqueting dinner service that was produced in 1848 to mark the wedding of the son of Tsar Nicholas I, Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolayevich, to Alexandra Josiphovna, daughter of the Duke of Saxe-Altenburg.
Parts of the service are now kept in the collection of the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, among others.
