IMPRESSIVE GROUP OF 30 FIGURAL SOAPSTONE CARVINGS.

Origin: China.
Dynasty: Presumably late Quing dynasty.
Date: 19th/20th century.
Technique: Differently colored soapstone. Carved, some engraved and/or painted.
Description: Figures of Buddhism and Daoism or Chinese mythology, depicted in group ensembles or as
individual figures. Most of them are on pedestals, some of which are made of elaborate
openwork soapstone. Among the individual figures and groups are 2 with immortals, 6
scholars, 4 Lü Dogbin, 2 He Xiangu, 1 Lan Caihe, 2 Shoulao, 1 Cao Guo Jin, 4 Luohan, 3
Guanyin or a lion in rock formation.
Measurement: Height from 11,5cm to 42cm.
Supplement: 9 soapstone figurines, partially more damaged and/or restored.
