Lot 54 | Impressive large figure of a sitting Lama

IMPRESSIVE LARGE FIGURE OF A SITTING LAMA.

Origin: Tibet.
Date: 19th c.
Technique: Copper in repoussé, multi-part. Garment borders finely engraved, fire gilt and painted with gold.
Description: Sitting on a high lotus pedestal in padmasana, the right hand raised in the gesture of teaching and discussion (vitarka mudra), the left rests in avakasha mudra in the lap. The youthful face with fine facial features. A light smile on the lips and the eyes with serene, downward directed gaze. The borders and hems of his kasaya robes are decorated with flowers, tendrils and clouds.
Measurement: Weight 2049g, height 39.5cm.


Condition:
Traces of age and use.
Gold slightly rubbed and all over some fine scratches on the surface.
On the face gold and pigments a bit rubbed.
At the back of the head a small repair maybe from casting imperfection. Further, two small dents and one scratch.
At the right wrist a small dent and fine crack.
Otherwise good condition.
