Provenance:
Auction collection R. Peltzer, Amsterdam (Muller), 26-27.05.1914, lot 157 (as Anthonie Palamedesz, with a signature on the lower left);
Sold in the pre-war period by Jacques Goudstikker;
Auction Sotheby - Mak van Waay, Amsterdam, 2.05.1984, lot 125 (as circle of Anthonie Palamedesz, the signature was probably removed).
We are grateful to Ellis Dullaart, RKD, The Hague, for her help in cataloguing the present painting. Dullaart points out that there is no further reference to the Goudstikker label with the address Kalverstraat 73 on the back side. The painting was probably sold prior to October 1931 by the art dealer.
On the basis of the information currently available, Mrs von Saher, the heiress after Jacques Goudstikker, will not lay claim to the present painting.
