TERRACOTTA BUST LOUIS XV.
Jean-Baptiste II Lemoyne - after.
Date: Presumably 19th c.
Technique: Terracotta with beautiful patina.
Description: The king has his head turned slightly to the left and is wearing a breastplate. Above it
is a drapery and on his left breast the Order of the Holy Spirit.
Measurement: 38x32x21cm.
In the collection of the Musée national du château de Fontainebleau there is a bronze bust
of Louis XV by Jean-Baptiste II Lemoyne, which is very similar to the present bust. It is
signed and dated 1751 (inv. no. MR3371). They differ slightly in the posture of the head,
which appears somewhat more pensive in the present bust and is without a clearly raised
chin. The drapery and the collar also differ, but the model can still be clearly
identified.
