Werner Sumowski initially classified the painting as an anonymous variant to van Noordt's painting in Budapest. After studying the original at Christie's auction in 1991, Sumowski identified the work as van Noordt's own variant, executed much later than the first version. This information can be found in Sumowski's expert opinion of 22.9.1997.
The painting is listed in the online database of the RKD, The Hague, as attributed to Joan van Noordt under fig. no. 44471 without mention of the above-mentioned expert opinion by Sumowski.
