TWO-FLAME CANDLESTICK WITH LIGHT SHADE.

Date: Around 1822.
Technique: Silver. Paper.
Description: Ascending round foot with palmette decor, the smooth shaft with two mobile candlestick
arms. Capital-shaped top with a sphere finial. The shade is adjustable in height by a
screw. On the base engraving: "Dem Herrn Pr: und Paedagogiarchen Dr.F:C:Rumpf bey der
Feyer seines silbernen Amts=Jubilaeums" (For the Mister Pr. and paedagogian Dr.F:C: Rumpf
on the occasion of the festivities for his silver work-jubilee) . A quotation from
Seneca's Letters on Ethics to Lucilius is engraved on the opposite side (Ep:83 Senec). On
the edge of the foot: "von dessen dankbaren Schuelern der ersten Classe Gressen(?) 25 ten
September 1823" (from his grateful students of the first class Gressen(?) 25th of
September 1823).

Mark: Inspection mark Frankfurt on the Main with 13 (Scheffler Hesse no.152), maker's mark Johann Martin Schott (1815-1822, ibid. no.548).
